We are at the middle mark of 2021! Crazy how time flew by.
With that comes a new list, one that I have been meaning to do ever since the year started. I’ll be listing out fifteen of Korean pop music’s best efforts for the year, and this time, I won’t be putting them in any order. It is merely just a list of the best tracks that have made their way into our earlobes for the year… so far.
And what a half-year it has been! From the likes of BTS buttering up our eardrums to STAYC catching up to us ASAP, the outlook of the genre’s music is fantastic for the remainder of the year. Without further ado, let’s get to the list of 2021’s best Korean pop efforts, with the hope that you might agree (or disagree) with what I’ve got here…
In reviewing ‘I burn’, I suddenly found myself down the (G)I-DLE wormhole, and now I cannot stop listening to (G)I-DLE. Frankly, this serves as a fantastic opportunity to review their work, and since I looked at ‘I burn’, we have to move down to ‘I trust‘, one of two releases from the CUBE Entertainment girl group in 2020. Released following a successful run on ‘Queendom’ (which we’ll touch on later), (G)I-DLE made their return to tackle on the darker concept they explored on the show.
This does beg a few questions: will that success translate well into a new release (and subsequent releases), do they truly suit the darker concepts, and can we trust (G)I-DLE to create a mini album that’s filled with amazing songs? We’ll have to take a look into the review to see!
‘I burn‘ is the first K-pop release in 2021 for me, crafted by CUBE Entertainment girl group (G)I-DLE. Continuing on the trend of focusing on ‘I’, (G)I-DLE, pronounced I-DLE, kicks off 2021 with a mini album that could potentially melt the woes and wintry cold of the end of 2020 (and what a year that was). Having come off a summer comeback with ‘DUMDi DUMDi’, can the girls bring back the heat to keep us warm in January? Will this album burn with pleasure or is it too painful to keep moving forward?
I will continue my LOONA project series, but I’ll be reviewing other releases in the meantime! Read on for my review of (G)I-DLE’s ‘I burn‘!
